What is My Approach to Counselling?

I am a person centred counsellor. One of the principles of this type of counselling is that the client is the expert. I offer a safe space where you can feel free from threat, both physically and psychologically.  By offering this environment, it affords the opportunity for trust to be developed within the therapeutic relationship. Trust is essential to enable you to feel confident to explore how things are feeling for you.

By offering you a safe place to explore your world, you can develop the confidence you need to make positive changes to your life that will ultimately improve your health and wellbeing.

How Many Sessions Will You Need?

As we are all individuals, it is difficult to pre determine how many sessions will be right for you. I work on the premise that we take it one step at a time. There is no requirement to book multiple sessions in advance, so this journey is done at your own pace. At the end of each session, we will discuss how you feel about continuing and if you want to book a session for the following week. As such, you are in control of how many sessions you have and you can end therapy at a time that feels right for you.

Is What You Say Confidential?

Confidentiality is a very important factor of the therapeutic relationship. Ensuring that your information is treated with respect and held in accordance with the Data Protection Act is essential to offering you the space in which you can feel safe and supported. However, if I believe that you, or someone else you discuss in the session, is at risk of serious harm, it may be necessary to breach confidentiality.  Any such circumstances would however be discussed with you first.
